Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[At the sounds of his name, Swift turns with a genuine smile on his face, accepting the offered glass and taking a moment to enjoy what he was seeing. Maglor almost looked like a har in that outfit. If only he actually were.]

Maglor. You look positively stunning.

[When asked about Seel, though, Swift sneaks a worried glance in his direction that he hopes Seel doesn't notice.]

As well as can be expected, I suppose. I'm sure he doesn't want to be here but I asked him to come. I thought it might be good for him.

[bythewaves]

[ He laughs softly, the light in his eyes still more feral than normal, not yet settled back into peace ]

Thank you - you should have known us in our youth, I think, if you think this poor outfit something to admire. [ He says wryly, but he sighs softly at Swift's answer ]

Ah no. Poor child. You're right though - it never does to brood too long alone.

[swiftlet]

Poor? You could take the place of my hostling and nohar would know. [Maglor might not know what a compliment that is, but it's definitely high praise. Cobweb is still legendary.]

He doesn't like hearing it, I think, but at least I still have a few tricks left to get him out of the house.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor shakes his head in memory, an amused laugh on his lips ]

We were princes of the Noldor, who learnt the art of crafting gems from the Smith of the World. In our youth in Tirion, court finery was far finer than this! I am exile and dispossesed, and these are all I have left of those days. Tis a very poor showing of what we once had indeed!

[ He nods ]

I am glad he has you, Swift. I hope it does him some good, to be out.

[swiftlet]

[It sounds like there's a story behind that, but it also sounds like this is probably not the time to ask about it]

Well. Poor or no, it's lovely.

So do I. I'm sort of doubting it, but we'll see.

[bythewaves]

Thank you. [ Maglor smiles at him and looks across at Swift ]

Either way, it will get him moving and interacting with other people. [ He murmurs ] It is not what he wants, I am sure, but it is what he needs, right now.

[swiftlet]

I hope you're right. Maybe he'll figure that out eventually, but I suppose neither of us will know for certain for a long time. If ever. He is very good at pretending nothing's wrong.

[bythewaves]

He is. [ Maglor huffs a low laugh ]

He really does remind me of some of my brothers. Ah well. I will continue to take him out to the training fields. I don't know if it is helping, but it seems to calm him, a little. Or tire him out, at the least!

[swiftlet]

He told me it does help, but I'm still worried. Are we truly right to try to change him?

[bythewaves]

There's change and there's change.

[ Maglor shrugs ]

Not even the Eldar are static, and we change so very slowly, my people. It's good to learn, to stretch oneself, to correct the faults one sees.

[swiftlet]

[Sigh]

You're probably right. I'm just... terrified, I suppose. He's already hurting so badly and now this... I just hope I'm doing more good than harm.

[bythewaves]

It's alright to be afraid.

[ Maglor says softly ]

All we can do is try, and hope.

[swiftlet]

I suppose so, but I've never really liked that answer.

I don't think we'll be staying for much longer, regardless. I should probably take him somewhere he feels safe. Or safer.

[bythewaves]

It isn't a particularly nice one to hear. [ Maglor agrees, and nods ]

A good idea, I think. No point in stressing him out too far.

[swiftlet]

I'm sure he'll appreciate it. I suppose I should count any time out of the house as a victory.

[bythewaves]

Probably. One day at a time, Swift. Don't look too far ahead!

[swiftlet]

If only it were that easy. I've been looking so far ahead for so long I'm not sure I know how to think any other way.

[bythewaves]

Despair is only for those who see clearly to the end. [ Maglor says gently ] There is no harm in looking ahead - but do not let it consume you.

[swiftlet]

Now you really do sound like Cobweb.

[Sigh]

I'll try. But focusing only on now doesn't help either.

[bythewaves]

You will have to tell me more about Cobweb sometime, I think!

[ Maglor reaches over to touch Swift's arm in sympathy ]

I know. There always needs to be a balance, but it's hard to find when you've a loved one hurting.

[swiftlet]

My hostling. I'm sure he'd appreciate being talked about.

[Sigh]

I know. If only it were that easy.

[bythewaves]

We all wish such. But you do well, Swift - none can fault your effort in trying! And you need but ask, and such aid that we can give is yours.

[swiftlet]

I do appreciate that, but I wonder if you might regret offering. At some point, I'm sure, I'll be unbearable.

[bythewaves]

I had six brothers, five of them younger.

[ Maglor says dryly ]

Believe you me, you would have to work very hard to be worse than them.

[swiftlet]

[That actually gets a small laugh.]

Fair enough. I can't imagine having that many.
