Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Maglor's head snaps up, hand going automatically for the blade that he carries even here, but he relaxes almost immediately, and it never gets drawn.

"That depends on which songs you were asking of, youngling."

Young, is his immediate impression. Not human. But not-a-threat, whispers instinct and song, and Maglor takes his hand from the hilt.

[fadeling]

One day, perhaps, someone will manage to make him remember not to do that to people. He has a hard enough time remembering things anyway, though, and he saves that for the important things.

"There's always singing, soft in the silence. You sound like you can see the songs."

[bythewaves]

Ah, and Maglor gentles, nodding.

"And do you also?"

[fadeling]

"Sometimes. I hear what hurts so I can help. It's... louder, sometimes." It hurts him to hear it sometimes, too, but he listens anyway.

[bythewaves]

"A healer, hm?" He smiles at him.

"A hard task to bear, but one given only to those great of heart. This song mingles grief and joy, but so do all songs, eventually."

[fadeling]

"I just want to help." He's gotten used to people not liking the way he does but he can't do anything else, either.

"There's always hurting, hid and hidden, hungry for healing. You hear it. You know."

[bythewaves]

"That is well." Maglor hums softly.

"I hear. Although not quite the same way you do, I think."

[fadeling]

No one hears it quite the same way he does, and he's used to that, too.

"What does it say to you?"

[bythewaves]

In answer Maglor sings for him, low and sweet, a golden memory of a woman with copper-red curls and freckles on her cheeks, with strong hands and wise eyes, and a low voice full of love as she taught her young son how to bake honeycakes. It's wistful, and sad, for it's a memory of a time long gone that will not come again, but there's joy in it too, and love as deep as the ocean.

[fadeling]

Cole listens--he's good at that--in silence, unmoving. Supernaturally still, even. He can hear the hurt in it, but it's a good memory too, hard to untangle. People are too complicated, sometimes. He only has to be one thing.

"She loved you."

[bythewaves]

"Yes." Maglor smiles wistfully.

"Somewhere, I hope, she still does, although I would not blame her if she turned away."

[fadeling]

"No. She loved you too much." He can tell that much from what he saw.

[bythewaves]

"Mothers often do, I suppose" He tips his head to Cole in thanks.

"I wish we had not broken her heart so, but tis already done."

[fadeling]

"Past is past, gone is gone. You try and tried. I think she knows." Sometimes that isn't enough, but that's why things like Cole exist. Here it's different, though.

[bythewaves]

"No echo of your lamentation shall pass the mountains" Maglor quotes, somberly. "But she is our mother. I always wonder if she knew."

[fadeling]

"Yes. They do." Mothers usually knew. "They can hear the whispers, sometimes."

[bythewaves]

"What of your own mother, youngling?"

[fadeling]

That is a question no one has asked him before and he even manages to look a little surprised.

"I don't know. I'm not a person, I don't need one. Cole had one once, but I'm not him anymore."

[bythewaves]

"You seem like a person to me." Maglor points out gently.

"And if you are no longer Cole, what name do you wish to go by?"

[fadeling]

"A wisp and a whisper, found and then lost and then found again. I thought I was a ghost once." That's the only part of that he can really remember.

"I don't need one, but you do. Cole is fine. He won't mind."

[bythewaves]

"Everyone needs to know who they are, whether memory or otherwise. If Cole is who you want to be, I will call you that, but if another name suits you better I mind not."

[fadeling]

"I know who I am. I just don't need a name to know it. Cole is fine."

[bythewaves]

"Then Cole you will be to me, until you decide otherwise."

He hums in answer. Names mean a lot to his people, names and the choice of them.

[fadeling]

"Cole is fine He won't mind if I'm still Cole a little longer." Hopefully he finally has peace now.

[bythewaves]

"And what are you now, little memory, if you are no longer Cole?"
