Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[Kaiba raised an eyebrow at both her comment and her table manners. He could appreciate good sarcasm while in business-mode. He wasn't impressed at all by the sprawl, but he was making an effort to be polite. If he didn't look at her, he could ignore it.]

If they did, it's the best piss I've ever eaten.

[circumitus]

[That's okay, Rey can totally be the rude one. It's not much different from normal.]

Wow, so it must be some Grade A gourmet piss. Sounds like the shit you'd normally find in this pit. [She's just going to wash down the sweet bun with some bourbon, like you do.] Beats when they were trying to serve human meat once, though. But knowing some of the people here, you might still want to be careful what you eat.

[What a nice bombshell to drop on someone who just got here.]

[It was enough of a bombshell to make him pause before taking another bite. There was no way, he would have noticed if this was anything other than cow. Still, he didn't trust a single person here so it was worth getting more information. ]

Human?

[He could handle it, but who knew what Mokuba was putting on his plate. </small]

[circumitus]

Yes. Human.

[With a piece of potsticker crammed into one side of her mouth, she points towards one of the other side of the table with the end of the remaining piece of potsticker.] You do know that's human brain, right? Some people here can only eat shit like that.

[Never mind the fact that one of her friends for a while could only sustain herself on human meat, Rey wouldn't be surprised if there are others with similar deals. She's been here too long to find cannibalism to be remotely surprising anymore.]

[Kaiba took a closer look at the table. While before he had taken it for eccentric plating, he was now wondering if it all actually was what it looked like. Or worse, if the things that looked normal actually weren't.

He was too practiced at the "business face" for any of that to show beyond a slight widening of his eyes. Good thing he never had much of an appetite to begin with.]

So they do these things often?

[Business mode - I talk about these things all the time. I'm not shaken.]

[circumitus]

If by "these things" you mean forced cannibalism, not really. They tend to try to change shit up to keep us on our toes or whatever.

[She shrugs a shoulder, taking another long drink of her bourbon.]

One minute it's a week-long obnoxiously loud party, the next it might be a parasitic hellscape with monsters and nightmare fog.

[In a way she almost preferred that to the reverse version of Silent Hill, where everything became the Lisa Frank Experience. Rey will take killing zombies over that any day.]

You've been here awhile then. How long?

[circumitus]

[That is always a sort of depressing question to answer:]

Been over two years now. Twenty-eight months, to be more exact.

[Because she's absolutely keeping count.]

[allthecards]

[You have just been upgraded from 'uncultured pleb' to 'potentially useful source of information']

That's a long time to be play thing for the so called "gods."

I'm sure there have been escape attempts.

[circumitus]

[She's seen shit man. She has seen so much shit.]

It takes effort, but it's possible to fight their influence, regardless of what others might tell you. [This fact she's tried to stress to others when they foolishly start hurting one another. Rey has been around long enough to know when her head is being messed with.]

There have been more murder attempts than escapes, since it's not like there are many places to go.

[allthecards]

[He has to smirk at the mention of murder attempts]

If they're that annoying, killing them off first would make finding a way to leave easier.

[circumitus]

And you're not the first to assume that. Thing is, if they die, we not only lose any hope of access to the Door that brought us here, our food and power supply goes with them. [They could probably make a go of it for a while, but Rey would rather not be stuck on this planet if she can help it. The cave was better than this.]

That doesn't account for those who don't actually want to go back to where they came from, either.

You've all allowed yourself to be completely dependent on them. There has to be something here that they don't control.

[His tone may suggest that you're being blamed for that particular injustice.]

You have every reason not to trust them, but you're still eating their food.

[circumitus]

[Wow, excuse me, princess.]

Not all of us. Some of us have actually made efforts to depend on them less than others.

What they don't control is us. Just because they can manipulate people's emotions and perceptions doesn't mean they have control over our free will. They don't know shit about how we work -- they still keep referring to everyone here as "humans", and that has worked against them.

Honestly, they're the least of our worries, anyway. [le sip.]

[Kaiba couldn't disagree with anything she'd said. Even if he was new to these particular "gods", she was repeating his own philosophy.]

The 'monsters' and animals outside of town.

[Stares off towards the edges of the town as though sizing them up.]

With the right technology all of the problems could be resolved at once. Is there anything here more advanced than the copper age?

[circumitus]

No, not them, but they've got their uses.

[Rey appreciates having something she can kill and eat, when something comes along that's actually edible.

[She pauses to think.] The Null that the gods are running from, probably. There are parts of them and some tech at the science lab. [Her eyes narrow.] Just don't be a dick to Alphys; she's already got enough issues as it is.

[allthecards]

[Perks up at the idea of a science lab. Rey now has his full attention.]

Who is Alphys? Is it her lab?

[circumitus]

Yes. She's got a computer and parts from the Null, if playing around with a bunch of robot corpses is your thing.

[Rey's not going to judge.]

[allthecards]

[If it came from a Null, that means he could get more parts. For the first time in their conversation, his lips twitched into a smile. And not a particularly nice one.]

It helps to not anthropomorphize them.

[circumitus]

[Her eyes narrow at that response. That hits a little close to home, man.]

Well, they did apparently start out as organics before they turned themselves into machines, so that's a little different.

[allthecards]

[Well that complicated things. At least needing to worry about others' reactions to harvesting or using the parts.]

Hn. The sentience debate. If they're already dead, it's not like they can care.

[circumitus]

Not really much left to debate as far as some worlds are concerned.

[Okay that's a lie, but she will fight over Nick's personhood to the death despite how he looks.]

Still, the bastards were trying to kill us the last time they attacked -- even went after kids. Doubt you'll find much opposition here.

[allthecards]

[Just nods in understanding. He was going to do what he wanted with any Nulls he found anyway.

Still this woman had been helpful and he was networking]

[Rey is hardly about to be a paragon for the Null and stop him because ~ethics~ or whatever. She's not even buying that cute little infected robot that's been taking advantage of the resident bleeding hearts by claiming it wants to be "friends". Such bullshit.]

You tend to get experience after two years if your head's not stuck up your ass. [And she likes to think that hers totally isn't.] And the name's Rey.
