Intro Log: Fly, My Pretties!

What: The intro log for May
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!

Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!

As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.

Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.

Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!

Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[no, no, no, and no. but to an ordinary human with no combat experience like Jane, they might as well have it.

she doesn't think they'd make cute pets, she's seen "The Wizard of Oz" and knows that these little bastards can be trouble. see also: the one who nearly ripped her hair out.

she hears the woman's voice from behind her and doesn't hesitate to obey after she sees the monkey fall out of the sky with a knife in its shoulder]

Done! Now what?

[Her attention is more on the creatures that are flying around in a flutter than on the person. If she is injured, there's nothing that Carolina can do until she drives the beasts off. Another knife is thrown, and while she might lose that weapon, she picks up the spear that one of them dropped.]

Keep low.

[As she strikes out at one that come close, twisting to smack another that dives in, its knife nicking her arm before it gets a whack as well.]

There's an exit, and they won't follow out.

[the roots of her hair smart, but other than that, she's uninjured.

Jane bends over at the waist, hands held protectively over her head.

she takes a moment to gape at how this other woman is able to fend off the monkeys]

Great! Which way is it?

[She'd be able to fend them off better in her armour, but she's not exactly going to complain at the moment. It's likely a good thing that her hairs braided tightly back and that her reflexes are good enough. Not that there isn't going to be bruises and marks come tomorrow, but she's able to keep them at bay.

Still, she stabs the first one she hit, reaching for her knife, before waving the spear back and forth. There is some intelligence there. How much, Carolina isn't certain, and if they are hovering to think up a new plan, she's not going to sit around and wait to see what it is.

Her focus remains on the creatures as she takes a step back, and there is a small indication with her head.]

That way. There might be others, but they lessen the closer you get.

[Jane just wants to get out of here in one piece. she's confused about where she is, she's still hurting after she broke up with Dan, and all she wants is a moment to collect her thoughts and breathe.

she's not going to deny that this lady is very efficient at fending off the monkeys. good thing she came along, otherwise Jane would still be running around and making a target of herself.

she pays attention and looks in the direction the other woman indicated]

All right. Let's go!

Start off. Slowly.

[Carolina would take the rear, letting her take the lead. There might be a threat in front, but more likely than not, they would be congregating behind them. She doesn't know how smart they are though, whether they can plot plans, so she's going to err on the side of caution for now.]

[Jane sets off at a snail's pace. she's also bent over a little at the waist, trying to make herself seem smaller. now and then, she glances back to make sure her rescuer is still there.

Jane has been in some weird situations, mostly of her own making, but this takes the grand prize for weird]

You do this often?

[It seems, perhaps, that they've found someone else to pester, which isn't exactly ideal either, but one problem at a time. She does keep scanning, just in case it is a trick, yet so far so good.

Her gaze shifts for a moment to the woman.]

Fight monkeys, or rescue people?

[With the Reds and the Blues, it does tend to be more saving them from themselves... As for fighting monkeys, that would be a thankful no. Dinosaurs had been one thing, but flying monkeys? She can only imagine Caboose befriending them and the trouble that they would have gotten in to.]

[better them than Jane who has no means of protecting herself. she glances from side to side occasionally, trying to see if any more monkeys are headed towards them. so far, they've gotten lucky.

she glances back again]

I don't know. Both?

[these monkeys would make terrible pets]

Monkeys are a first.

[Even for her.

She's seen enough though that it doesn't really phase her. She's not going to go running for the hills screaming her head off. Rather, she remains diligent.

As for rescuing people... Well, that is a bit trickier, but in more recent times, she could say yes. She's made efforts to change her ways.]

I tend to come in every time this happens. Looking for familiar faces.

[Or lending a hand if someone needs it.]

Fuck. How many other things are there?

[Jane wouldn't run for the hills screaming. she'd find a strong fighter and let them take care of her.

Jane can take care of herself in a normal situation, but this situation is so far from normal she can't even believe she's here. much less being chased by flying monkeys from "The Wizard of Oz"]

So lots of people come here all the time?

[which Jane appreciates]

Seems to change each time this happens.

[Whether anything has showed up twice, Carolina doesn't know. She hasn't thought to ask Wash, or anyone else, as to that. It would be a bit easier if they did, as Carolina would know right away what was in store for her.

Her gaze tracks a monkey, although it seems to be heading off back towards where they came, and she moves to answer the next question.]

A handful, it seems, on a fairly regular basis.

Shit. And how many times has it happened?

[Jane is in way over her head. she's used to braving the wilds of London, not having to flee from fictional monsters.

fortunately, they're nearing the exit]

This is too weird.

This is my fourth, but it's been going on for years.

[Although not quite in the same format as this, she'd been told.

She can see the entrance out to the rest of the city ahead, and giving once last sweep, Carolina lowers her guard ever so, turning toward her. Not that she doesn't keep glancing out of her peripheral vision.]

It might take some getting used to, but it's not all bad.

Years? Wait, I could be here for years?

[Jane is horrified by the notion. she spent four years in London, but that was mostly because of Dan. and the time she was in NYC, she spent going from guy to guy, strip club to strip club.

Jane sees the exit, straightens up, and runs for it]

So what are its good points?

Possibly.

[Not like Carolina is going to sugar coat it, but she's also not going to make it seem like it's the end of the world and say goodbye to the next half century of your life.]

Some seem to stay longer than others. How or why, I can't explain.

[Maybe those who left had found something.]

No rent. No currency. Find an empty place, or not, and you can live there.

[she's finally outside the Colosseum and takes a deep breath in relief]

Holy shit. No way.

[she shakes her head in disbelief]

Okay, that's really weird. How do they get out?

[because she wants to get out and get out now]

So, what, everything's free?

[she's not letting herself believe it yet. in her experience, everything comes with a catch]

If I knew that... [She wouldn't be here. She'd have taken the Reds and the Blues (or those that wanted to go) and gotten her ass out of this place. Although, she does have to admit that it's not quite as bad as she had originally thought.

A lot of that was having some of the team here though.]

Well, not items that other people already own.

[In case she was planning on breaking in to other people's houses and taking their stuff. Carolina's not going to be accountable for that.]

...you probably wouldn't be here. Got it. [Jane is on her own. which is how she'd prefer it, honestly. she doesn't love Dan anymore, so having him here would be pointless.

Jane's always been a loner. she's guessing that will have to change]

So no breaking and entering. [she winks]

You can, but reactions might vary.

[They had had their own b&e at their place, although it was the previous owner coming back... In their defence, he had been gone for quite a while, and there were few possessions that had even spoken of the place being lived in. They had all just assumed that it was left over items from someone who had left.]

Although if you prefer not to live alone, you can use your device to contact others, asking for a room mate.

Since I don't want to be shot, I think I'll avoid that.

[she assumes that in a weird place like this, everyone must be armed to the teeth like it's the Wild West]

No. I don't think I'd want a roommate.

[she just got out of a relationship and thinks she wants to live on her own for a while]

More likely stabbed, or hit with something.

[Or just yelled at and questioned. Carolina doubts that those are any of the reactions that she would be going for- or that she should be. She doesn't know much about her after all. Not that she exactly comes off as a master thief extraordinaire.]

Finding your own place is doable then.

I'd like to avoid that, too.

[she's a master liar. she maintained a false identity for four years and none were the wiser. she's not, however, a master thief]

Good. I assume they're all decorated like hotel rooms?

Uh. Depends what type of hotel rooms you're used to...

[Don't expect grand and fancy, unless she stumbles across someone abandoned that was so. Their own items are mish-mashed. Eclectic. Usable, but they're not going to win any home style contests.]

I'm used to cheap and trashy with cigarette butts on the stair landings.

[partially a lie. the apartment she'd shared with Dan was small, but nice. the place she had after she left him the first place was definitely on the sleazy side]
