Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!
Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!
As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.
Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.
Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!
Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers May 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Rey • Star Wars
Part One (Kylo Ren): The elevator is cold and sterile, the sounds of it moving upwards a soft soothing sound that should be anything but that. They're making their way to a precipice, and she can feel it, the anxiety that is working inside of him, tinging the complicated feelings she feels through the bond. She steps closer, beseeches him, and in response he brings up that one topic she's buried so deeply she can't address. It's like a nightmare, every time she tries to think about it clearly. She cant look right at it, even if she wanted to. 'I know who your parents are.' She doesn't want to know, doesn't want to think about it, and steps back as the doors to the elevator open, and hot air floods the once sterile feeling space.
Rey turns, the door open to the dusty insides of a Colosseum, and it's such a shift in reality that she simply tucks her chin and blinks in shock, and she barely ducks a flying creature with a spear before she turns back to her companion, surprised again by the disappearance of the elevator itself. Another creature dives at her and she stumbles further back from Kylo Ren, throwing up her shackled arms to keep from getting gored with a long dagger, the clang! of the blade bouncing off the metal echoing through the Colosseum.
"Ben!"
Part Two (OTA): Some time later she gets separated from her companion, his presence in her mind still there, and even without seeing him she can sense that he's fine. Some of the others here are not, and Rey runs full tilt towards a combatant who is struggling with a creature. She shouts, a rather frightening battle cry, before she lops off the head of the monster in one fell swoop, her lightsaber crackling as it arches through the air as if meeting no resistance. She sticks her hand out, looking around quickly to make sure no other creatures intended to swoop in.
"Are you ok?"
She's never been in a place where food was plentiful, having to bite and scratch and fight for every scrap of food, every sip of water. In her travels she's not had time to really understand or appreciate the wonders of well greened worlds, too busy running too and from things to look at the trees for fruit or nuts or other such treats. Here though (despite the dangers) she has found trees flourishing with life and fruit and Rey finds a very nice branch to sling herself up in, the loose spans of fabric hanging from her clothes knotted around all different bundles of fruits for the tasting. They're certain to stain, but she cares very little, taking a bite out of an apple and groaning in delight as the sweet flesh explodes in her mouth. Delicious.
Rey finishes the apple, chewing down to the core and then licking the rest of the juice from the edges, so focused on the fruit that she doesnt notice the other person until they're nearly directly under her tree. She leans forward, bracing her forearm on the branch before carefully lobbing the core at the other person, smiling.
"Are you lost?"

Orchard (cw: sex work)
Jane has already read the newbie guide and claimed an apartment, so she figures she might as well get a good look at the city she's found herself in. she checks out the Clinic, the Guard HQ, the Speakeasy (and is tempted to linger there a while, but she figures that drink will only make her depressed), and finally she finds her way to the orchard.
she blinks when an apple core nearly nails her in the head and looks up to see who threw it]
No. I'm just exploring.

[ Rey grins, kicking her legs a little as she leans further on the branch, tucking her chin onto the top of her hand. ]
This world is a little terrifying and confusing, but this place. [ She motions around them, her voice taking on a pitch of awe. ] This place is stunning. I've never seen anything like it. Have you?
no subject
[Jane cranes her neck to get a better look at Rey]
This world is a lot terrifying and confusing. [Jane lowers her head and looks around the orchard as Rey gestures] Me? Not really. I'm more used to the urban jungle than the great outdoors.

[ She wishes she could see through this woman's eyes, curiosity peaking. The closest thing to a city she's seen was on Takodana or on holos, but she's sure that's not what she's insinuating.]
Where I'm from there's sand. And more sand. [ She takes a breath, Jakku feels so distant now, but she can still taste the grit in her mouth when she thinks of it. ] Not really much else.
no subject
[the idea is really strange to Jane. she's always lived in a big city. not always under the most luxurious circumstances, but she'd take that over the country any day]
So kind of like here? [she looks around herself. aside from the orchard, there doesn't seem to be much growing around here] Were you happy to leave?
orchard
"Not lost, just nostalgic," she says vaguely. "Though I guess if you look at my overall situation, being in a different world so suddenly and all, you could consider it 'lost'."
The orchard isn't quite the gardens in northern Tirazis, doesn't quite have the lush contrast with the neat pruning carried out by government-paid gardeners weekly -- the day when it was dangerous to be caught living out of them the way so many homeless and Parasitized were, and little Avisheh quickly learned how to avoid their schedule. But the orchard has trees, bushes, and vines growing fresh fruit that didn't have to mostly be imported from another world for lack of natural vegetation, and that certainly takes her back to her days of living in Tirazis as a young child, feeding off shahtoot berries and figs that grew in the flourishing public gardens, running errands for the glorified cult of the Parasitized.
Bad memories, certainly, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to be nostalgic for something that hurt you.

"I would call it pretty lost myself." She swings her leg over the side of the branch sitting up. "Sorry about that. I didn't mean to hit you."
no subject
She leans against her cane, getting a better view of the woman above.
"I guess you're right about me being lost, though. This place is a little big, and it's harder for me to get around. I'm used to being more stationary."
no subject
"Do you need help?" She asks awkwardly, leaping down from the tree. The fruit laden fabric bounces, a bit of cherry juice darkening her tunic.
no subject
Of course, between having two and not having the correct therapy to use them, she still needs the cane.
"No, I don't need help. I decided to wander on my own. If it takes me a little longer than others, so be it."
She gestures with the cane at the cherry stains on Rey's clothes.
"You leave any fruit for the rest of us?"
no subject
"I'm Rey. It's nice to meet you."
no subject
"You're not the only Rey here, you'll find. Though shared names is not so uncommon anywhere you go."
Dr. Razi knew a few Avishehs back where she originated. It was a common name, which was likely why she took it upon immigration to the Nexus. First one that came to mind.
She eyes the stained fingers, but decides she doesn't really give a shit and shakes the woman's hand.
"Well met. I'm Dr. Razi."

Which is something he's currently trying to fix. He had gathered and saved all roses he could find from the feast that gods provided last month. Most of them were stocked up in his rooms while the rest he had brought to Orchards hoping that he could plant them. In fact, he was just going to check on how well his little project was doing when he notices a person, seemingly a human, up in a tree. It's not the most usual sight one comes across to as most of people tend to find the food from pantry. But it's still not enough to catch his interest. Or at least it isn't until the woman up in tree calls after him.
"Hm," he looks up, smiling both from delight and surprise. "Not really. What about you? You're the one in the tree."
no subject
"I'm not lost IN this world. But I am lost from my world. Up this tree seems to be the best place I could be right now." She reaches into the top most knotted part of her clothing, and pulls out a handful of slightly squished cherries, her fingers staining red. "I don't know what these are called but they're lovely, if you'd like one."

He reaches out with the Force, putting enough power behind it to fling the creature backward with one unfocused push. In the past, clearing his mind of anything but the battle to come has always been an easy task. Rey’s presence is a complication, particularly in her current state.
As they wait for the next attack, he lifts a hand to her restraints and releases them. There’s a moment of hesitation before he steps toward her, shutting off his grandfather’s lightsaber and passing it towards her in the same motion.
“Here.” Questions of who it belongs to can wait. For now, this is no place to be without a weapon. "Get ready."
no subject
"I take it this is NOT where that elevator usually goes!" She jiggles the blade as a creature focuses in on them, and she charges it in return, shouting as she swings upwards, the sword carving through the hip of the creature. It crumbles a sit hits the ground, the smell of burned fur noxious to the nose.
no subject
“No. This is new.” A dry understatement, really. There’s nothing remotely familiar about the crumbling structure. Even its signature in the Force feels different. Off. As if another presence was stifling the energy itself. A thought which both concerns and intrigues him. For now, he pushes aside all academic thoughts, using the time to activate his own crackling blade.
“We should head towards the exit. There’s nothing to be gained from these animals.” He says with an edge of disdain. Sentient or not, they’re still beasts. Clearly not responsible for whatever power brought them here and hardly worth the effort.
no subject
Her back turned one of the winged monsters swing around and follows her, jostling a long spear in one hand as it throws it at her, cackling in glee.
no subject
He could leave it harmlessly frozen in the air. Or reverse its course and impale the beast on its own crude weapon. A satisfying thought. Instead, he gives a single small gesture and knocks it off course. With the trajectory rendered harmless, it lands in the dirt inches away from where she’s headed.
Not a threat. A message. This conversation isn't finished.
no subject
"Ben. We can't just let these people get hurt." She takes a step back towards him, her tone insistent. "Please."
no subject
The methods of their arrival here may be unusual, but the procedure for landing on an unknown planet is clear. Locate the essentials: shelter, food, water. Find answers by whatever means necessary. Procure a means of escape. None of which will be achieved by standing around arguing.
"We're wasting our time."
