Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!
But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.
Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
you wanna call the tdm thread canon?
Aw, what the heck. Looks like she could use some pointers.
There's a skeleton abruptly beside her with no indication as to how he got there.]
It's kinda like a phone. Use it to call people and whatnot.
I think I'll say no? Just because it involved an event she wasn't technically here for.
With all the monsters apparently inhabiting this place, she's going to assume that he's just another one of them, even if he might be able to talk. Surely a walking human inner structure isn't going to be able to provide her with much information about her device anyway.
It's also assuming that she knows how to use a phone.]

Welp, it was bound to happen sooner or later. He ducks the arc of her swing - he's good at dodgin', just ask Chara, ha-ha, just kidding, don't ask Chara please - and starts backing away with one hand raised, palm out.]
Woah, woah. Hey now.
no subject
[Aside from not living. Jasper has the feeling she's going to be asking this question a lot in the time she's here. At least until she gets tired of it.
She doesn't attack him again. Brute she might be, but she isn't always going to attack others for no reason.]
no subject
[Well, as far as first impressions go, he's certainly had better. He tries not to look as rattled as he feels as he peers up at her...and up...and up...
She is really dang tall, geez.]
And you are...?
no subject
[The gem. But he probably doesn't know what a gem is and she gets tired of explaining. Maybe that'll be enough. Probably not.
She recognizes the term skeleton finally, so doesn't ask any more about that. Most skeletons she's seen didn't walk on their own, but most ignorant humans would say gems didn't either.]
Since you're here, you can show me how this works.
[She shoves her communicator in his face.]
no subject
He resolves to keep an eyesocket on this one.
He accepts the communicator and switches it on with a few clicks of buttons and well-placed phalanges, then hands the newly-illuminated device back.]
It's like a phone, pretty much. Links you up with the network people use to communicate 'round here.
no subject
That doesn't help me. Go into detail.
[It's really hard to ask for help with this without looking like a fool. She can't help it her people designed things so they'd be easier. She's just a soldier.]
no subject
It's like a...it's a way to communicate with other people. You got your screen, [which he indicates with the flick of a phalanx,] you got your "on" switch and the keys whose letters correspond to whatever character you type in, and -
[He stops, eyeing Jasper's considerably larger-than-average hands with a newly-acquired shade of uncertainty.]
Maybe you should request a bigger model.
no subject
[Who's she supposed to even talk to, anyway? One of the supposed gods? As if she wants to walk into some temple to request a communicator of all things. That just sounds stupid.
She grumbles.]
Maybe I can just get something smaller to poke at it with. How irritating.
no subject
[He scratches the back of his skull in a gesture that's completely unnecessary, considering that he lacks skin.]
But yeah, pretty much everyone here's got one just like it. Got a list of contacts, so you can see who's who down here in Hadriel. [He slips his own phone out of his pocket and taps through the list of contacts before he locates the one entitled "Jasper."
Her device chirps with the indicator of a received text.]
See? I just texted ya.
[(The text says little more besides "hi.")]
no subject
She taps at a few things she thinks he had but ends up in completely different menus, causing her to let out another frustrated growl.]
This is poorly designed.
[It can't all be her fault, come on.]
no subject
[He wiggles his phalanges accordingly. He is really not any good at explaining this technical stuff to the uninitiated, is he? Nah, not really.]
I think someone's puttin' together an info pamphlet for the newbies, but I dunno how useful it'll be for people who aren't used to this kinda technology.
no subject
[This is an insult, honestly. Being a large gem is a matter of pride. She could have come out smaller and weaker like some of the others, but she hadn't. Were there no other beings her size in this place?
She casually drops her communicator to the ground and is disappointed when it doesn't crack.]
I don't need to use something like this.
[Until she does.]
no subject
I guess that's your prerogative. [His tone is utterly placid and neutral. He lets it lie where it is.]
I won't lie, though; these things come in handy.
no subject
[She's tempted to step on it. In fact, she raises one foot up as if she's about to do just that, but then she thinks better of it. The gem continues to stare down at the object instead, deciding its fate.]
I know I saw humans on Earth communicating over devices with larger screens.
[At least she thinks that's what they were doing. It's not as if she'd cared enough at the time to get closer and run them off with her curiosity.]
no subject
[He pauses for the laughter he's pretty sure isn't gonna come, then forges ahead valiantly regardless.]
So. Jasper. I'm guessin' you're new to all...this. [He makes an equivocal gesture with his hand that's meant to encompass the entire city and makes a poor job of it.]
no subject
Of course I am. That's obvious.
[He doesn't even get bonus points for guessing correctly.]
no subject
You gotten the whole run-down yet? Blah blah blah, welcome to Hadriel, all that jazz?
no subject
[How much good it's done her is questionable. She's uncertain about the reliability of her sources.
With a sigh, she bends down to pick up her communicator again.]
If you're planning on adding to it I'm not sure how much I care.
no subject
[His tone is utterly light and conversational as he says it, belying the dismissive undercurrent to the words.]
Anyway, we're all stuck on this sinkin' boat together. That's the general gist. So, y'know, it's best to try and get along with people.
no subject
But here she's more than a little lost and uncertain - and like hell will she be willing to admit that to anyone. She might as well stick to dealing with "monsters" like this guy here, since it feels as though the moment she starts truly fraternizing with humans she might as well work with Rose Quartz. And she'd rather die.]
This "sinking boat" will be minus one gem soon enough.
no subject
He doesn't think she's talkin' about the other thing.]
Let us know if that works out for ya. You could patent the method wholesale and make a fortune.
no subject
[Simply that there weren't any. At least not any good ones.]
But no one here knows what a gem is, so that means I'm the first.
[And maybe whoever's running this place doesn't know what they're really dealing with when it comes to her kind. She's not as easily crushable as a lot of the creatures here. (That incident with the tonberry notwithstanding.)]
no subject
[But then he shrugs, his tone even and unconcerned. Just 'cause he's given up doesn't mean everyone else should, right? Heh heh, right.]
But, hey. Maybe you're right. And you wanna try and get on outta here, you can be my guest.
