Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Amos is out helping the newcomers: he's no official helper, he's just out on his own. A short man in baggy jeans, worn combat boots, and a slightly-too-large camo jacket, he does not cut an impressive figure. But his backpack is full of sandwiches and bottled water and a few first aid supplies, there's a cheerful friendly grin on his face, and he has both a gun and some knives in case things get tricky.

Turning the corner, he spies a new face an ambles up to greet the girl. When he speaks, it's with a New Orleans accent, a bit snappier than your typical Southern drawl. "Hey there, sugar. Need any help? Directions?"

Ooh she likes this one right away. He's a self-starter, and he's friendly to boot!

"Oh, no, I'm just wandering 'round." Faith's smile is wide, and her accent, Scottish, might make it seem even wider. "I'm new, though, so if you think there's a place I should see, I'd love to hear about it. My name's Faith!"

"Nice to meet you, ma'am," Amos chuckles, delighted with her grin (and won over by the charm she radiates). "I'm Amos."

Rather than shake hands, he makes a shallow bow: he's lived in Japan for longer than he'd lived in AMerica, and the manners have stuck. He only offers his first name, though, as she has. An equal exchange, because it takes a lot of charm to overcome his caution. Where he comes from, giving out one's full name readily will get you enspelled or possessed or kidnapped by the fae.

"Well, depends on where ya wanna go? Housing an' shops are mostly that'a'way, so's Hope's temple an' the clinic." He gestures with an easy hand.

He bowed! That's cute! "What a gentleman! How nice t omeet someone so polite!" Faith gives as best a curtsy as she can -- it's not perfect, but it's the thought that counts, right?

"Mm, my friend showed me the clinic and the housing, but not the temple." Kate mentioned Hope and the other gods, but there'd been so much to talk about that they didn't linger. There still is so much to talk about. "Is that were you go pray if you're looking for a miracle? Thought he revived people without asking."

Amos chuckles but does not correct her, amused by her curtsy. "Well, no? It's more like a place where you can go an' leave a message. Or a sacrifice, some of the god do that. It's easier to get ahold of 'em by their inboxes, though."

Which, frankly, he is still rather baffled by. Inboxes. For gods.

avephoenix: (i'm worried my bed will miss me)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-16 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"The gods here have inboxes?"

Faith is quiet for a few seconds, frowning as lets that settle in her head. The gods have inboxes.

"What a clever way to hear prayers." She smiles. She likes it, even though she isn't sure she likes the gods here, given what she's heard of them. "Do they actually respond, though?" Unanswered prayers are no fun.

"Yup. They do. They're pretty chatty." Amos nods, and quirks a little smile. "Though they answer more if you're polite, which makes sense."

Amos is generally polite to everyone - and everything - he meets, as in his world, being polite increases your chances of living a long and unenchanted life. He's been getting along fairly well with most of the gods, save Fear, but that's for obvious reasons. "They ain't a bad bunch, I've met worse."

avephoenix: (i'm still alive btw)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-17 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mm, good to know." Faith files that fact away for later. Makes sense they'd want people to be polite. Anyone is more inclined to be nicer to someone if they're polite.

In that, Faith and Amos are agreed. Faith's world isn't quite so unpredictable, but she was brought up to be well-mannered, and she just likes being nice to people.

"Oh? There gods where you come from, or d'you mean just other people?"

Because Faith knows some pretty bad people too. Well -- knew.

"Both, though I meant gods." Amos knows. Oh, if only Faith knew, he's one of the "bad" folks, per se. Working for the yakuza doesn't get you a clean record or clean hands: though Amos does it for the loyalty to his boss, not for a love of the crime and violence. "Where I come from, if there's a legend about it, probably exists. Somewhere. So there's a lotta gods runnin' around, an if you're unlucky you cross paths with the not-so-nice ones. Or the batshit crazy ones. Pardon my French."

avephoenix: (everything is right in the world)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-21 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a grey area if Faith has ever known one. She used to be kind of a "bad" guy too, if unknowingly. But then, she's probably still a bad guy to the people whose family got killed in all the work Faith and the others did to take down Rosenberg and the Agency.

"Sounds like a bit of a mess, that." Faith laughs. She's not bothered by the cursing. "But at least it makes this place easier to deal with?" That's the case for Faith, sort of. "Won't get boring here too quick, will it!"

"Oh no, it ain't borin' here. An' to be honest, I still thought I was home, for a bit there at first, just, yanno, somewhere else. Which ain't too unheard of, where I'm from."

Amos rolls a shrug. Being enchanted, spirited away, or otherwise magicked into a different place or pocket dimension was definitely not unheard of, though skeptics still debated whether it was reality or mental illness. Amos, being who he was, knew for a fact that the fae could whisk you away and return you elsewhere if they so pleased. "Not a lot here I ain't heard of or run across before."

avephoenix: (a sinless child of god)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-22 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, then you're a good one to know! You'd share your tips and tricks when something bad happens, yeh?"

He's free to say no, but unless he does, Faith will probably assume yes. Why wouldn't you want to help people if you could?

(She knows the answer to that. She's lived through that. But here she is, still assuming the best of people.)

Amos laughs. "An' sure I will, sweetheart. Ain't much point in knowing things if you just gonna keep it to yourself."

Unless, of course, it's blackmail or murder, or other such weighty secret matters. Amos just grins at her, though. "There's a lotta resourceful people here, too. Some of the critters that've come through are from their worlds, so there's a lotta info sharing that goes on. It's nice. So far people've been real nice, all pullin' together into a solid community. Bit unusual, that, but very welcome in a place like this."

avephoenix: (i feel like a drunk disney princess)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-24 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Great!" Faith agrees on that point. (Not the blackmail or murder bit, but only because that's not her area. Alicia would probably agree with him, and really, Faith doesn't trouble herself too much with how Alicia does things.)

"That's good, that's good. We're all in this together, whether we like it or not. No sense making enemies of people who could save our lives, y'know?"

[personal profile] amos_moses 2016-09-27 01:06 am (UTC)(link)

"True dat, sugar," Amos chuckles, pleased he's found someone who thinks along the same lines. Amos is all for everyone getting along and no fighting. He rarely sees it happen, though, and not to this degree. "Speakin' of, there anything I could answer for ya? Or you need directions anywheres?"

avephoenix: (go away now please)

[personal profile] avephoenix 2016-09-27 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Faith purses her lips and taps her chin with a finger. "Mm, could you point me in th' direction of Guard HQ? I want to know where they are, at least." And, of course, she wants to introduce herself and offer help!
