Well, Hope and Delight are messing with the door again, but at least this time dragons aren't involved, right? This attempt goes a bit better - sure, no one gets sent home, but if everyone will just look under their seats, they'll find a FREE [INSERT SOMETHING YOU MAYBE DIDN'T WANT AT ALL HERE]! Awesome! So nice! Yup, throughout these few days people will be finding things from home - something they loved, something they used all the time, something they hated, something they totally forgot they even had. All sorts of cool stuff!
Well, they might not actually find it. Their neighbor might, or a complete stranger. And who knows where it could turn up? At the park, half-buried? In the Silent Hill zone, kept safe by a horrifying monster? Or hey, maybe in somebody's underwear drawer. Awkward. Better try to find your stuff, or find the owner of whatever weird crap you found. It could be something important.► This log covers October 15th-October 19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

In all honestly, in my opinion anyway... We've all got a little sociopath in us. Doesn't sound like your home is all that different from mine... That or they all escaped space and came to earth?
[ Will shrugged and took another gulp of his drink, a bigger one this time. ]

[They're evil and they hurt Gilly and she's nothing like them.]
no subject
I did say it was only my opinion. Opinions can be historically wrong.
[ Leaning over and pulling one of the wires from the engine, twisting and untwisting it into another part before letting go again. ]
Sorry... That was bothering me.
[ Awkward and uneasy. Why was it that he could only go so long in a new interaction before making the other person feel some kind of uncomfortable? ]
no subject
[She shies back, glaring. Barnaby moves away from his bowl and curls up at her legs, giving Will a pointed look.]
You're weird. What'dya want for the engine?
[She wants to fuss with it, but preferably not with him around.]
no subject
Her question threw him off. He'd not actually considered giving it away and no one had every asked him to make something for them so he was at a loss as to how to respond. ]
I'd say Barnaby is on the card? [ Before she could comment he threw his hands out before him. ] I joke, obviously you wouldn't give your companion away... Hmm well, I guess, maybe if you'd help me find some supplies to make the boat half that goes with it?
[ Maybe that way, if she owned the engine and he made a boat for it to run, they could both benefit from the share? ]
no subject
[She could probably just hook the engine to Barnaby's harness and drag it off right now, but that'd be rude. And it's a bad idea to be rude to people who might hurt you later.]
no subject
Well, wood and metal. Maybe glass and pipes. Anything that would float and could keep water out too. If you help me find the stuff... I don't see why I couldn't build you a boat to go with that engine.
[ He smiled at Winston, bending down and letting him lick his face excitedly. ]
I hear there's a lake?
no subject
I can do that, sure. But you do know there's stuff that lives in the lake, right? Like, stuff that eats people.
no subject
I know that now...
[ That was a bit of a unwanted surprise. Still, it can't be all that bad, right? ]
Can it be caught? Is it big? Are there other things that live there too, such as stuff we could eat safely?
no subject

Are they edible?

[ As Miriam lay down and wiggled her fingers at him, Winston barked happily before pouncing on her, licking her face and sniffing at her excited and wild, though he meant no harm at all, just glad to have a new friend.
Her question took Will aback. Spluttering on his drink as bit by the sudden change in topic. ]
A bad person? ... N-no I don't think I am. Are you?
no subject
[Miriam is always careful when she heads into the caves, always on guard and ready to defend herself. But she's got Barnaby. So that makes it okay.
She glances up at him, not moving from her spot on the floor, covered in dog hair.]
I never killed anybody. Not even the ones that really deserved it. But everybody likes to think they're good. Or that they're so strong it doesn't matter if they're good or bad, 'cause they're on top.
no subject
Will being Will, walked a little closer and joined her on the floor. Holding a hand out to Barnaby to be sniffed and evaluated, the other patted Winstons back. ]
I don't believe that anyone is capable of being purely good. There's no such thing as being on top, it's a race, a ladder and everyone else just makes up the rungs no matter how high we get.
no subject
[Smash you down or drag you up, either way it's dangerous. She blinks at him.]
It's okay. I know lots of bad people. They're just not as bad as the ones on top.
no subject
Inconsiderate. The King is, on top of his house of cards, while we bear the weight. Tumbledown on us and stack us back up. And so the story goes on.
[ Waving his hands about in actions as he spoke, Winston following his movement as if there were a treat clasped inside his palm. ]
Ah but, we're the Ace. We can be top or bottom, we have our place on both ends.
[ He smiled and took a drink. ]

It's my job too. You notice patterns. Behaviour. Almost every King lets you know how to take him down. He'll disguise his weakness as a strength. His Achilles heel. You just have to know where and when to look.
[ Raising his glass to her, a kind of toast, before finishing it off. ]
no subject
[Miriam knows a few kings she wants to topple back home. Not yet, maybe. When she's bigger. But that's okay. She knows how to wait.]
no subject
[ Passing his empty glass between his hands, like it was a ball. His eyebrows raised a few times and some little sounds left his lips, he looked as if he were talking to himself in his head. ]
For example, let's take a look at the mind of a psychopath killer. They're smart, they're vain and narcissistic. They want you to catch them, even if they don't realize it right away. After all, what's the point in going to all the trouble of butchering and torturing if no one is ever going to see it, to appreciate it...
[ He pauses, watching her face, trying to make sure he's not freaking her out with what he's saying. ]
... They leave crumbs and clues, thinking just enough to get themselves noticed. Get stuck in habits and patterns that they didn't want you to pick up on, however. Like I said, what they believe to be a strength is always a weakness in the end.
no subject
[She's quiet a moment, not looking at him.]
Usually they don't. The Sons, I mean. But their boss always does something big. Last time she drowned people in a big aquarium. Lined them up on the railing and kicked 'em off one at a time. She let a few of them live, but only if they pushed their friends over the edge. The fish were still in it.
no subject
Drowning is denial and forgivness... It's being punished by a controlling hand. Helpless yet fighting to hold on despite knowing you've lost. Then, then it's accepting and calmness... A look of forgiveness on the face of the submerged.
[ He really needs to be careful when he talks like this. It could easily give someone the wrong impression. Lord knows he's already pissed off a few people by- well, by being himself.
He blinks, turning to look at her. The explanation made sense to Will, the reason why these Sons she spoke of did what they did. But she wouldn't understand and he had to phrase it so he didn't upset her. ]
Then their boss is afraid of losing her Sons. She's scared of being stabbed in the back. Make the punished push their own. No more blood on her hands and nothing but watchful eyes scared of what she's made others do.
[ He pauses in thought. ]
This boss, is she religious? Does she have a vice or any kind? Something she always does or has?
no subject
Miriam nods just once, solemnly. She keeps petting Winston. He's soft. She likes his ears.]
I dunno. I never saw her up close. Just a picture one time. And maybe there's something, but it's not religion, exactly. They just have this story, one people used to tell back on Earth about la llorona. You know. The Weeping Woman. She drowned all her kids, then felt so bad she drowned herself. But then she got turned into a ghost and keeps on doing it, so back on Earth you had to be careful around rivers. And that's their symbol. They paint it on their armor and any ships they take.
[Miriam frowns.]
Gilly had a friend who was with them, once. The Sons, I mean. But he got away. And his friend said it was all a big game. Just something they planned out to scare people.
[Well, it fucking worked, that's for sure. Miriam shivers.]
They're just evil. They hurt people.
