Thanks to Conner's meddling, Delight has decided that it's high time for another of her events- and this one has a bit of a romantic twist, so at least it's, uh, sort of holiday appropriate!
On the morning of the fourteenth, everyone will wake up to a fresh pile of snow on the ground. Unlike Fear's event a year and change ago, this snow is powdery and light and festive- though still definitely a bit cold! To help counterbalance this, there are also plenty of ugly sweaters stocked in various buildings to keep you warm.
In addition, some various sprigs of mistletoe will start appearing over random thresholds. These won't be limited to public places, however- you may find a few of them in your own home! Any two people (at some discretion of course) who find themselves underneath it will experience a strong desire to kiss one another- be it a platonic peck on the lips or something a bit more intimate. The compulsions can be resisted and laughed off of course, but that's no fun at all!
But the fun can't last forever! Extended Kissmas ends on the twentieth, and while the snow and mistletoe will disappear, our memories and ugly sweaters will linger on forever!► This log covers February 14th-February 20th.

15th Afternoon
He did not expect this fluffy, fuzzy...animal, giving out cups of hot drinks. Oh sure there are still the claws to account for and the size of the thing, but...honestly he feels like he's staring at some kind of human-sized, pre-war huggable toy. Like a giant cuddly deathclaw but with less vicious eyes, fuzzy fur, floppy ears, a beard and huge horns. Actually, wasn't there a pre-war animal that looked like that? What was its name again? Maybe this two-legged beast was some evolutionary form of it.
So while he's standing there trying to exactly what animal it was, he might also just be staring at Asgore from across the road. Rude, Danse.]
no subject
Asgore takes note of the human watching from across the way, but while there are still people to address on his side, he doesn't pay much heed. They probably just find his appearance strange. He thinks he understands the feeling. It certainly has been unusual to be around this many humans; the last time he ever saw multiple humans at once (or any adults for that matter) was during the war.
The people he was talking to leave, and the man is still there. Asgore hesitates for a second, then lifts a paw to wave. Hello?]
no subject
Danse sets himself on guard immediately, especially when it begins to raise a huge paw. Is it going to attack!? Can he take this thing down!? Any obvious weaknesses that he can exploit!? Maybe grab some of the snow and throw it in its eyes to blind it, before going in for the kill--
--....oh. It's...it's waving at him. It's...saying hello?
The Brotherhood had been clear on its policy when dealing with non-humans. Kill the supermutants, the synths and the feral ghouls. All three of these had nothing but bad intentions for humans. Treat normal ghouls with suspicion, but check your fire; Brotherhood code prohibits open fire on non-hostiles. But Danse has spent enough time on settlements with non-feral ghouls to have observed surprisingly normal, non-aggressive behavior from them. Of course the threat of going feral remains, but so far all the ghouls he's spoken to seem...well. Just like the average Joe.
So no harm in acknowledging a greeting, right? Danse nods in return and finally begins to approach the monster. His body language (tense, alert) still spells out how wary and suspicious he is, but hey. Conversation always beats confrontation.]
What the hell are you? What animal did you evolve from?
[...even if said conversation starts out a little blunt and rude.]
no subject
Well, that is fair. The other humans here have all been kind to him; he does not deserve it. He had been ready to pour the man a cup, but instead he sets the package of cups down next to him, keeping the kettle cupped in one large paw. He's using fire magic to keep it heated, but not enough to really be visible. His movements are careful and slow, but he seems accustomed to handling small and delicate things. Compared to him, most items are.]
I am a type of monster known as a Boss Monster. We are not descended from any animals - like all monsters, our bodies are mostly composed of magic.
no subject
[Danse has to fight very hard not to snort at its explanation; it sounds too much something he'd read in one of those pre-war comic books. Because seriously, who names their kind a "Boss Monster".]
Yet you act human enough. Are all monsters like you?
no subject
Not at all. There are a wide variety of monster types. You may have seen some here already - I have only just come to Hadriel myself, but my good friend Sans has been here nearly a year. He is a skeleton.
[Gonna probably not bring up his kids to this stranger who walks up to monsters and asks rude questions, but Sans is fine. He can handle himself.]
no subject
Danse frowns. Not exactly the question he asked, though he can see how it can be taken that way. Also, a skeleton? Seems like monsters come in all shapes and sizes, furry and none.]
And like yourself, they all have human mannerisms? Sentient, capable of morals reasoning? [Maybe he needs to be more specific.] Do your kind seek out humans as prey?
no subject
Of course not. [He looks like you just suggested that he eat his own kid or something. Asgore's got little ground to stand on when it comes to being a good person, but he doesn't consume human flesh.]
no subject
Still, Danse seems appeased by Asgore's reaction, some of that earlier tension leaving his shoulders. He's even polite enough to apologize.]
Sorry. [Even if he doesn't sound very sorry at all.] It wasn't my intention to offend or shock you with that question. [Though that is also very true. Danse just...doesn't deal very well with people.]
no subject
[He's large and strange, and looks like he could easily kill a human in a number of different ways. Which, he can, so. Why should they not be alarmed?]
I have lived among humans in my time, but I think very few of those here are familiar with monsters...monsters of our kind. [He can't say he's on board with the way humans apply the word, but they're doing it nonetheless.] My name is Asgore Dreemurr. I am King of the monsters of the Underground.
no subject
And Asgore isn't what Danse imagined a monster king would be like. He might not be a human, but Danse can't really put him in the same category as the super mutants. He was just too...too nice. So although Danse looks mildly uncomfortable and even awkward, he raises a hand, extending it for a handshake.]
Danse.
no subject
[He leans forward, giving Danse a very gentle handshake. You must be careful with other people, at his size.]
If I may ask, what did you think a king would be like?
no subject
But he shakes Asgore's paw firmly, if still a little stiff. The fight-or-flight instinct is hard to ignore after years spent fighting hulking beasts that could tear your head off as easily as ripping paper in two. This monster king looks like he could do that if he wished.
So the king's gentle touch surprises him. As does the question that follows afterwards. Danse pauses, thinking back to the history books and the stories he's read over the years.]
Someone who stands tall, proud and fierce. Wise kings control their tempers and exercise patience, the foolish ones let loose their passions, but I doubt either would be serving hot drinks to random strangers.
Kings can be kind and humble, working themselves for the good of the nation. But there's still an understanding that they cannot present themselves as anything less than the absolute ruler of their people. I doubt any king would have taken my questions about monsterkind as patiently as you did.
no subject
If he has any particular feelings about some of what's said, Asgore manages to keep it to himself. He isn't offended, at any rate.]
But now you know more about monsterkind, do you not? [He shrugs, smiling.] We have never stood very much on ceremony. And I have always believed that sharing a good cup of tea is a wonderful way to make friends.
no subject
[He glances over at the hot kettle Asgore had been using to pour out drinks earlier.]
Is that the beverage you were handing out to passer-bys? Where did you get it?
[He can't help his curiosity. No one's got the tea or the finery to enjoy it with in the Commonwealth. The bombs burned away so many aspects of their culture away in their flames, and walking through the crumbling ruins of Boston, Danse can really only hope to catch a glimpse of that sweet American Dream of ages past.]
no subject
I do have hot chocolate as well, if you would prefer.
no subject
[His response, as politely phrased as it is, still carries a sharpness to it that suggests that civil but tense discourse is the best Asgore can hope for. Anything that's overtly friendly is going to get rebuffed.
However, he's not without a sense of decency. Asgore has been really polite with answering his questions; the very least Danse could do is tell the monster king some tidbit of information that the king could find useful.]
I'm told that you can speak with those so-called gods and submit requests for amenities and items. If you're looking for plants, you could speak with Sorrow. He's the one that brought the orchard. He'll ask something of you in return, but fulfill his request and he'll fulfill yours.
no subject
[What can they possibly need? They've got all the power in this relationship, it seems. But he should form relationships there, in case he ever needs to intervene on behalf of the other monsters.]
no subject
[If they've got the power, than it's not surprising they'd like to keep the power, or even grow it further.]
The gods that have a somewhat more positive relationship with the citizens of this city are Hope, Delight and Tranquility. I've yet to meet the first two, but Tranquility has so far proved to be helpful, if still disinclined to extend himself in anyway that would put him on an opposing path with his kind. He seems to pick the path of least resistance, and encourages others to do the same.
no subject
[Dead people aren't afraid anymore, to be sure, but mortal danger certainly strikes fear into peoples' hearts.]
no subject
It's not surprising that Fear holds that much power. The people in this city live with the knowledge that at any time a god could decide to subject them to terrible events that threaten their very being.
