A dark shadow looms over Hadriel on the morning of May 16th. There's a tension in the air, something palpable, as if everything has gone still and is ready to snap. You've been waiting for the other shoe to drop for hours now, and you're getting to the point where you're starting to wish that it would just happen already so that you can stop feeling this way.
Of course, when it does happen, it's not quite like you expect.
Maybe it's a tiger leaping out of your closet, claws extended. Maybe it's a faceless slenderman, stepping out from around the corner or a monster with beak and claws ripping open your shower curtain when you're most vulnerable- but within seconds, after you've been startled half to death by the monsters, they're gone. They vanish in a puff of smoke, or dissipate into glitter, or become something silly instead for a few brief moments before disappearing entirely.
Weird. But not unendurable, I guess. The bright side is that there will also be a few demon cats that have also made their way through the door. No two cats are ever in the same location, but there seems to be enough of them to go around, though the toothy one can be a bit vicious. Still, they aren't untameable, and might make nice pets, as long as you don't mind a bloody finger or two when it's time for lunch!► This log covers May 16th-May 20th.

[Anne was still holding the sword but she sheathed it quickly before making her way over to the other woman. She was shaken but unharmed, brushing confetti off of herself.]
I'm alright- how are you?
[She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.]

[Anne hadn't heard of any of the illusions turning to be real or hurting anyone but she still wanted to make sure.]
It seems all too real each time I see it- I fear that there may be a time when it will be real and cause real injury.
no subject
[A small mercy, in the grand scheme of things. Maketh eyes Anne up and down carefully. She doesn't look injured, which is good.]
That is my concern as well. Perhaps we should go inside?

I haven't seen anything appearing in my apartment so far at least.

Maketh glances at Anne curiously, but doesn't pull away. All right.]
Nor have I. I suppose that's--something.

Do you want something to eat? I have some crackers that are good with tea.

[A step closer to normalcy. Maketh smooths her hands down her jacket, glancing about the apartment.]
I see you've settled in. It--it suits you.
no subject
Thank you. It's the first time I have had my own space to do with what I've wished. I've lived in various palaces my entire life, this is a refreshing change.

I suppose it wouldn't be so different from living on a ship. Though I imagine the accommodations were much nicer.

[Anne finished preparing the tea, bringing it over to them and setting the cup in front of Maketh.]
no subject
[She pauses.]
Well. They fly. I assume your world hasn't invented that technology yet?
no subject
[Anne held her tea cup in her hands but she was watching Maketh with fascination.]
I know of no one who has flown before. Our ships sail on the water with sails and are made of wood.
no subject
[Though unheard of in Anne's. Curious. Maketh smiles a little.]
I suspect some of concepts are similar. Your ships harness--wind energy, yes? Ours burn fuel in order to stay aloft and to permit steering.

[Anne reached into her shirt to pull out her small cross to show to Maketh.] The gold is from the New World, it was passed down to me from my grandfather to my father.

[She pauses.]
This place would have been a great shock, then.

Yes, and learning of people who can fly, lanterns powered without flames. It's a lot at times, getting used to this all.
no subject
[She smiles a little.]
I can't imagine. But you--seem to be taking it in stride.
no subject
[She couldn't imagine anyone knowing everything about Earth, there was something to be said the mystery and thrill of the unknown.]
I try, sometimes it seems as if it's too much but everyone here has been so helpful.
no subject
[Sometimes by people fleeing the Empire, but she doesn't say that.]
There are good people here.
[Maketh smiles just a little.]
I don't think I could do it, without the people.

[But she had been a Spanish princess trapped in a balance and then a French queen trapped in her station in life by duty. Stories were all she had sometimes.]
Despite our circumstances, I am glad to be here just for the people I've met.
