By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.
Will Solace - OTA
[Okay. This was different. There were a lot more kids around than there should be. Unless the Door opened early and sucked in an elementary school. It was really too bad that the Gods chose to do this without pulling in any helpful tools. The Climbing Wall would come in real handy right now. Nothing like burning off some extra kiddie energy by trying to get up before the lava burns you. It's safe! Mostly. Not really. It would have be fine. No one's died in years.
But here? Will looked around idly, wondering what he could use to entertain any kids he came across.
Honestly, he was just happy no one seemed to have a flamethrower or a exploding frisbee.
Grabbing his guitar, he figured, sure, what could go wrong?]
Who wants to hear a song about how grandma puts on her armor?
Kiddie Version
[There's a kid hiding under a desk, maybe it's a table, maybe it was your bed. Huddled under there is a kid of about nine or ten, clutching a scalpel in front of him like it was life or death. His eyes darted around, paying attention to every sound he heard and every shadow that passed overhead. He didn't know where his satyr was but if he didn't make it to Camp?
The kids eyes are practically bugging out right now, and he's determined not to cry. Crying makes sounds, sounds mean monsters. They'd find him anyway though. He wasn't sure where he was...
Seeing a shadow pass he quickly jabbed in front of him, hoping to hit whatever was looming and crouching down.
Normal
Sure enough, he slides in close enough to listen to Will's story.]
I wanna hear!
[He cries out, before taking a breath to continue.]
Why would grandma put on armour, though?
Re: Normal
Clearly you and I have different grandmothers.
[Will got ready, smiling at the little tot. At least he wasn't getting into trouble when he was listening to songs.]
This works a little better when you have actual armor on.
[he started the song, it's a weird stupid song that goes through different parts of armor as grandma puts them on, and Will points to each part where the armor would be as he goes.]
Attack of the Bitties
She's not stupid enough to bend down to see what hurt in case it tries to attack her face, but she does yell a little bit]
Ow! That hurt!
Re: Attack of the Bitties
I'm sorry! Are you real? Like...you're not going to hurt me?
Re: Attack of the Bitties
Yes I'm real and that really hurt. Why are you under there?
Re: Attack of the Bitties
Monsters?
[Like they wouldn't find him under the desk?]
I'm sorry I hurt you.
Re: Attack of the Bitties
That's a good idea. Monsters aren't under desks. [Usually.]
Re: Attack of the Bitties
No. But they could be looking. Did you see any out there?
Re: Attack of the Bitties
No, but they don' always look like it.
Re: Attack of the Bitties
You don't smile enough. Or are you upset that I hurt you?
[Will mused. Who doesn't like to smile?]
Re: Attack of the Bitties
You shouldn't stab people.

Put down the sharp things!!!
So he'd crouched down quietly to figure out if it was an animal, a monster, or a kid, and found out it was the latter by the sudden swing of a weapon. Despite the surprise his reflexes are fast enough to dodge, for the most part, just ending up with a shallow cut across the hand he used to block.]
H-Hey, it's okay! I'm not going to hurt you.
[He assures the child as fast as possible, hoping to avoid another scalpel injury.]
Are you alright?
No!
I'm hiding. You should probably hide too. There are monsters around.
[Probably.]
I'm sorry I hurt you. You are human right?
no subject
Yeah, I'm human; there aren't any monsters around right now. It's safe.
[That seems like the most important thing to say first, although that all said he does add--]
It's okay, it isn't serious. My name is Lance; what's yours?
no subject
Okay.
[He started to crawl out from under the desk, still holding his weapon.]
I'm Will.
[He looked around, making sure there really wasn't someone waiting to eat him and that Lance wasn't working with the monsters. Nope. So far so good....]
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Will. There are monsters on the outskirts of the city, but usually not around here.
[Normally he wouldn't tell kids there are real monsters, at least not right away, but he thinks giving the truth is actually both the most believable and most reassuring thing he can do in this situation.]
no subject
[Will is glad he told him that there were monsters. He wouldn't have believed him if he told them there weren't any. Good call Lance.]
Do you have a better place we could hide?
no subject
[He's not too concerned about the issue of having to deal with any monsters right now, but he knows it'll be a different matter trying to convince Will of that.]
But you might feel safer at the Guard headquarters or the new Clinic; they're both still under construction, but there are a lot of people around who can also handle monsters if they need to.
no subject
I think i'd like that.
[He gave the man a small smile and tried out his name.]
Lance.
no subject
The clinic and guard are right next to each other, and they aren't too far. I can lead you there.

Monsters are out there.

Okay. Deal.
