By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[ Margaery is certainly far from Westeros where ladies never fight. Or, perhaps, they do in different manners. Quieter ones.
Ones that Rose was never any good at. She'd much rather have the feel of a blade between her fingers than words spilling from her lips to rely on. ]

Trees, probably. Maybe try your hand at one of the easier monsters long as I'm watching you.

[ For as reckless as Rose appears to be, she's not about to throw children to the metaphorical wolves. ]

[it's true. in Westeros, ladies fight in politics and seduction and their wars are no less deadly than the ones on the battlefield. Margaery has already received a lot of training in these fields of battle, but she can't help being curious, if only because she's been told that she can't before]

That would be acceptable. Please, teach me how to fight the trees and the easier monsters.

[ 'Can't' isn't a Rose in aunt Rose's dictionary. If the kid wants to learn how to handle a knife, then so be it. She's not about to tell her no. It's not her responsibility what ramifications it might have. ]

Alright, [ is all she says before passing off the dagger to the young girl. ] Get a feel for it, first. The weight and everything. You might not think that's important but, trust me, it is.

[Margaery was raised knowing that her duty was to make the best possible marriage to raise the prestige of House Tyrell. but she wants to learn how to use the knife. after all, what if she gets a bad husband?

she takes the dagger by the handle and raises it up and down and side to side a few times] It's heavier than it looks.

[ Eugh. Sounds like feudal Japan. Much as Rose holds a fondness for the Edo period of her childhood, she doesn't at all miss the antiquated way things were dealt with.

Except for stabbing your horrible husband. That she can absolutely get behind. ]

It is, yeah. And different ones will weigh more or less so you gotta' account for that before you start stabbing.

[yes, Westeros is pretty backwards in its gender relations. girls were expected to sing and dance and be pretty and boys were expected to fight and be stoic.

poisoning is easier and harder to trace, but a lady can't be expected to carry a full supply of poison on her person at all times, right?

she continues to test the knife with increasing confidence] Which one does the most damage?

[ Why not? That seems like a perfectly sensible precaution to Rose, actually. More ladies should probbly carry poison on their persons. ]

Depends on the person. I'm better with daggers like that, but some people shorter or longer blades. Sturdier steel. I'm not too picky, personally, as long as I can dig it in easily enough.

[unfortunately, most poisons are held by maesters and would have to be stolen or gotten by other means]

That would make the most sense. My grandmother tells me that I need to be adaptable. That should apply to weapons, too, shouldn't it?

[ Bummer. No chance of stealing them, then? ]

It absolutely should. I'm best at hand-to-hand combat, but I picked up a little of everything to help me out.

[not really. you can get them from a third party, though that comes with the risk of the third party tattling on you]

Hand-to-hand combat? What does that involve?

[Westeros is all about the swords, daggers, warhammers, and axes]

[ Rose blinks owlishly before lifting up her fists. She gives a jab or two. ]

Y'know, like. Fistfighting. Hand-to-hand. There's different types. I'm actually really good at Muay Thai because it's focused on the legs and, like, I got legs for days.

[Margaery watches curiously]

Ohhh. Sometimes knights have to fight hand-to-hand during the melee when they lose their weapons. [looks at Rose's legs and nods] You do have very long legs. They're pretty. [baby bisexual is a baby]

Yeah, that sounds about right. It's not a bad skill to have but, uh. Probably too unrefined.

[ Oh. Uh. Huh. She's not... sure how she feels about being hit on by a young maiden, but. A compliment's a compliment, right? ]

No, it's not! Grandmother says I should learn everything I can and that I should be adaptable. It's just another skill to learn.

[yeahhhhhh, she's going to be mortified when she wakes up and remembers, but in the meantime baby Margaery has no shame]

Do you really think so? My cousin Allana always calls me pig-face and oinks at me when we pass in the halls.

[ Then who is Rose to judge? She also will refrain from bringing it up to adult Margaery so, y'know. It's fine. ]

That's because she's jealous. Girls only make fun of other girls when they know they aren't as good. Otherwise, real girlfriends will support you. A good lesson to remember.

It is. It will also give me an advantage over other ladies. And over any men who try to go too far. Grandmother says that men have only one thing on their minds.

She's jealous? [Margaery had never considered this or anything else that Rose says] You're very wise. Grandmother would like you.

They do. Men are pigs. [ This is emphasized by the blond using her forefinger to push up her noise and oink. She smiles wide once her hand drops though. ] Well, most of 'em. There's a few that aren't so bad.

[ Only a few though, in her experience. ]

Alright, grandma stamp of approval. [ Nevermind that Rose is certainly old enough to be Margaery's great great grandmother. ]

[she giggles at Rose's pig impression and smiles brightly at her] Only a few? I'll have to be on my guard.

[unfortunately, she still ends up in three trainwrecks of marriages.

she nods seriously] Yes, definitely. They call my grandmother the Queen of Thorns because she's so clever and has such a sharp tongue for those who aren't.

[ That's alright, Rose is still woefully attracted to men too. Not as much these days, actually, but... Eh. ]

Queen of Thorns, huh? That's not a bad title. It's probably one I could have someday considering my name's Rose.

[Marg is pretty solidly in the middle of the Kinsey scale. she thinks that men are beautiful and women are beautiful and is capable of loving and desiring both]

It's a wonderful title. All of father's bannermen are afraid of her. And your name is Rose? How lucky!

As they should be, she sounds like a tough lady.

[ The Kinsey Scale, while helpful, isn't a hard definition of one's sexuality. In Rose's experience, she's capable of being attracted to and having feelings for both but- She definitely slide from 'mostly heterosexual' to 'mostly homosexual' over the last couple of years. Her sexuality is a moving target and that's fine. ]

Uh. Is it? I guess I never considered it all that lucky.

She is. She's the very best at politics and planning and she's teaching me everything she knows. I'm to be queen when I'm a woman grown.

[Margaery is definitely strongly attracted to women, but she's never had a chance to actually do anything about it. all two of her sexual partners thus far have been men.

she nods] It's lucky in that if you want to be known as a Queen of Thorns, your name is already Rose.

[ Eugh. Rose immediately feels sympathy for the young girl. Royalty. She doesn't envy her, doesn't wish that life upon anyone. For all the glamour, the blond knows it isn't nearly as lavish as they'd have people believe it is. ]

[she becomes royalty three times and all three times were disasters. Renly was more attracted to her brother than he was to her, Joffrey was a sadistic moron, and Tommen had no spine. and she's eventually murdered by her mother-in-law out of fear of a prophecy]

Grandmother says that it's not for everyone. That you have to be willing to put up with a lot of idiots and outsmart them.

Well, that's not the hard part. I just... couldn't deal with the responsibility, I think? Seems a lot of work for little pay-off.
