By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[ The bush shakes, as he claps his hand over his mouth trying to contain his giggles.

She can't see him, right? ]

[Abigail runs away and then sneaks up behind the bush, gently tapping his shoulder]

Tag, you're it!

[childofthemusic]

[ He spins around and falls over with a startled squeak and a laugh ]

My turn to count! [ He agrees and obligingly screws his eyes shut tight ]

One... twwwwwo....threefourfive!

[Abigail runs off at a slow pace, speeding up and giggling when he speeds up the count.]

I think you rushed four and five!

[childofthemusic]

"I sees you!"

He sets of after her with an excited crow.

"Should Cano count again?"

[am_i_a_monster]

Nah, just see if you can catch me.

[Abigail keeps running at a fast pace, but not quite her full speed, wanting to keep it fair for the kid]

[childofthemusic]

Gonna catch you!

[ He cheers, tearing off after her as fast as he can ]

Well, c'mon then!

[Abigail grins and runs behind a building.]

[childofthemusic]

[ He gasps as she runs around the building and determindely speeds up, tripping into a tumble in his haste, only to pop back up the way young kids often do ]

Abigail? [ He looks to see where she's gone ]

[am_i_a_monster]

[Abigail peeks out from behind the building]

Boo!

[She waits a second to give him a chance to get closer, then starts running again.]

[ He eeps in surprise and laughs ]

Found you! [ He carols and takes off after her again ]

[Abigail giggles and keeps running, turning back towards the spot they met in case his cousin returns and slowing to a pace where Cano can catch her.]

[ When he catches her he launches himself at her legs with a happy crow ]

Caught you, caught you! Abigail runs fast!

[am_i_a_monster]

[Abigail pretends to be surprised.]

I do?

[She smiles.]

That means you must run fast too, because you caught me!

Very fast!

[ He beams up at her and nods ]

Cano did his best! Big brother Nelyo has very long legs, you see. [ He explains ] So Cano has to be fast to catch him!

Nelyo must be very tall.

[Abigail wonders if he's there, but doesn't want to ask - in case Cano is missing him.]

I don't have any brothers or sisters. Do you have other siblings too?

He is! Sooooooo tall. That's his nickname from grandfather even!

[ He shakes his head ]

Not yet - amil's baby isn't borned yet, but soon, Cano'll be a big brother too!

[Abigail grins playfully.]

His nickname is sooooooo tall? That's long for a nickname.

That's exciting! Amil, is that what you call your mother?

[ He laughs ]

Silly! 'Course not. Grandpa just calls him "tall"! Yep! Baby will be borned soon. He kicks a lot.

[Abigail smiles at having made him laugh.]

It's a boy baby then. That's exciting. Do you know his name?

[childofthemusic]

Yes! That's what amil says.

[ He nods excitedly and then shakes his head ]

Not yet - amil doesn't like to say until the baby is borned, and atto likes to wait until after amil has given her name first. Nelyo got his first, but that's coz' he's the firstborn. Atto says he waited a whole two weeks before he named me.

Two whole weeks! I wonder what they called you during those two weeks. Cano must be a very special name since it took him so long to decide.

[She doubts her father took that long. He decided what she would be in the instant he knew he had a daughter.]

Is Atto your Dad? My Dad named me Abigail because it means joy of the father.

Dunno?

[ He giggles at the thought they must have basically been calling him 'the baby' or similar ]

Yep! And your atto must have loved you very much, that's a very nice meaning!

Cano's full name is... [ he pauses and screws up his face as he pronounces it slowly ] Makalaure Canafinwe. Amil gave me Makalaure... it means... um... forging gold? And atto gave me Canafinwe. It means... um... commanding? Finwe. Finwe is Cano's grandfather's name! All of us have finwe names coz of that.

He did.

[She leaves it at that. Cano is much too young to hear about the way her father loved her]

Yep! Grandfather Finwe is the king! All his sons have finwe names, and atto wanted us to as well coz he's the firstborn.
