There's a secret burning in your chest. It's hot behind your ribcage, and you need to let it out or else it might consume you- but who would you tell? Who could even begin to understand what you need to say? Your closest friend? Your significant other? Maybe even someone you don't get along with very well? It's hard to know who to trust and who will even understand, but in a strange way, neither of those things seem to matter- all you can think of is what will cause someone the most pain.
Maybe you're trying to get it out in the open so you can put it behind you. Maybe you just need to come clean because the guilt is eating you alive. Maybe you just really want to hurt someone- regardless of the reason, you're aching to tell someone else your darkest secrets.

Deputy Pratt || OTA
He can be found in the stores trying to find some better shirts or replenishing his supply of food that got decimated after the excursion and the bonfire.
Maybe he's out at the Range tending to his targets or tidying up.
Sometimes he can be spotted with his trusty shovel heading out to the Orchard. He spends less time digging holes to plant trees and more chopping and digging up up vines from the jungle that are trying to choke out the few saplings they have growing now.
But one thing is for certain, he's in a very weird mood and he's been thinking far too much about Jacob's message lately. Especially the fact that no one here has heard it.
Maybe he should fix that.

(Let's not address the hair situation. For once in thirty... something years, Kate actually regrets the insistence on a heavy load of hair. Putting it on top of her head isn't an option, and leaving it loose is somehow worse, so, plaits that insist on sticking to her back it is.)
Whatever the case, the world doesn't stop for anyone's grooming problems, and Hadriel in particular. The creeping urge to talk about things, unprompted and unwanted, is a klaxon, a warning that something is happening thanks to their wonderful keepers, the glowclouds, and so Kate does what she always does when things get uncomfortable:
She looks for something to do. And ends up at the orchard — or what was the orchard —, greeted by Pratt and way too many vines around tiny little green shoots. There's no asking if he needs a hand, no hello as her steps tread near-silently (force of habit, really) over towards where he's sat, and she crouches down next to him.
"What do I need to do?" He's attacking the vines, but she is no gardening expert. She's never even had a garden, and a particular fondness of the scent of lavender isn't a qualification to care for young trees.

The exploring has been some bullshit. The map was fun, but the hosts themselves make for an awful time. The transition to jungle hasn't come with much but the promise of slaughter and while that's enticing, it hasn't happened yet. This mixed bag of goods and promises now gets to join the odd feeling that she's compelled to tell people things that will bring them sadness and pain, and ideally she figures that may increase their sympathy toward her.
Law is already sympathetic, and hasn't shown a scrap of interest in her actual personal history. That's good. She likes that. So why is she storming toward him at the edge of the woods where he looks quite busy, as if she just has to tell him about the shit she went through just to try and make it in the world?
Who knows. But she's not happy about it.]

Like an intrusive thought - stepping off the edge of a building, a cliff, leaping from trains and burning buildings, all dangerous things he's done - it sticks in the craw and forces him to entertain the possibility of somehow being forgiven for an act that was fully earned by the perpetrator. Caedra had earned that power drain by running rampant, summoning whatever hellspawn came out of thin air and wreaking havoc on a city wholly unprepared to handle the meting of justice for transgressions.
But it feels like a transgression now, that he did it quietly and out of sight, cloistered away in Hope's temple, asking someone else to fight a battle for him. He'd said as much to Nick when he shared the information later with a reassurance that the demon wouldn't be throwing a tantrum like that again. Told the detective that he'd rather tackle his own problems than foist the effort on someone else. Doing so would incur a debt he may one day be forced to pay. ]

Sal | mostly open
[Since Emily left Sal has been busy making sure the coffee cart made its rounds, as best as he can anyway. It was especially vital now when he needed something to do to distract himself. Sure, the city moving was a huge distraction in of itself, but the sweltering wet heat building up behind his mask made it difficult for him to concentrate on anything else unless he had some kind of activity. He did the best he could to accommodate himself; he tied his hair up high in a bun, he found shorter sleeves (and now his arms are cut and marred from random twigs and thorns attacking him as he moved through this new space), and sometimes he would find a quiet corner and take his mask off, sometimes fanning himself with it, but that was rare.
Of course serving hot coffee wasn't the best way to beat the heat but again, it's a distraction. More importantly though, while he didn't know Emily for longer than just a few interactions this seemed like an important thing to her, and since he was the only one who had volunteered to help should she no longer be around, he felt it only right that he do this.
Unfortunately pushing a cart in the middle of a fucking jungle is hard as hell. So sometimes you might stumble on Sal being stuck and deciding "fuck it", he's visible, he'll hand out coffee from here. Other times he might try (and succeed, even!!) at getting the cart unstuck. Other times he's simply mapping out the smoothest path he can. Either way he's hard at work and while his face is sweating like hell and there's such obvious moisture in his hair he's not stopping any time soon!]

[At some point when his shift is winding down he feels this powerful urge; it starts as a thought. He's the only one to know this particular thing about himself. It's a lonely feeling. [Newt is... still largely avoiding the lab. It's fine, he's fine. Instead, he can be found camped out near the edge of town, watching a group of creepy spider-deer munching on the leaves of a nearby tree. He's got a pad of paper in his lap and he's too occupied with sketching the deer things to notice you approach. If you get close enough to see, the sketches are actually pretty good, like rough drafts of something you'd find in a biology textbook. Little notes pepper the white space between the drawings, written in German or maybe in some alien language considering how bad his handwriting is.
In any case, he seems pretty consumed in what he's doing, so... Spook the boy? y/n circle one.]

[Newt doesn't even remember the nightmare. He rarely does anymore, though he has a good guess. It's always the same thing, more or less—Peter barreling over the lab stations to get to him, dragging him down with a force that shouldn't be possible, crushing his throat so violently that there's a snap and his body goes limp and there's centuries between that moment and when he finally—
He's awake suddenly, sitting up in bed, drenched in sweat and breathing hard and something woke him up, it might've been his own voice, he's not sure. The jungle is so loud, even at night. It would remind him of the Shatterdome if the noises were the whirring and clunking of machinery instead of singing insects.
He absently paws at his neck as he comes to his senses. Right, okay. He's not in the lab, no one's coming after him, he's not dying, he's okay. He's okay.
His hands scrub over his face and he falls back onto the pillow. It's pointless, he knows. There'll be no getting back to sleep after this regardless of how exhausted he is... But Rosalind's in the next room over, hopefully still asleep, and he doesn't want to risk waking her. Besides, it won't be the first night he's spent staring at the ceiling, heart pounding too heavily to get any semblance of rest.
The door creaks open and he shoots up again with a yelp.

She's finally getting used to sleeping at night, albeit in fits. On and off, waking with a jerk time and again, gasping in horror before slumping back. The contents vary: half the time it's things that happened; other times it's things that might have, that she only narrowly escaped, hands grabbing her, forcing her down-- or worse, the ones where she's in her coffin, safe and sealed away. And yet someone pries the lid back, and there's a man with a stake and hatred in his heart and she's helpless, tied up and immobile, unable to do anything but stare in horror and wait for that pain, immeasurable and all-encompassing, piercing her chest, and it hurts, it hurts so badly, it's searing and awful and--
She always wakes up bloody after those nightmares. She clenches her jaw so tightly her fangs end up slicing her lip, over and over.
But it's not her with nightmares tonight. There's a whimper, and then a hoarse shout, and before she realizes what she's doing she's springing out of her coffin, racing through the hall with supernatural speed--

He can be found patrolling just about anywhere, and frequently at the speakeasy afterwards. He's at Guard HQ daily, training and working on the schedules -- the Null are coming sooner or later and they need to be prepared. Every now and then he swings by the orchard to check on the plants there, the ones that are left and the ones that are regrowing. Friends are also welcome by his apartment whenever they like despite the event that he can feel tugging at him whenever he talks to anyone... he's managed to fight it off so far but it's early yet. Sooner or later, he's going to blurt something out, he can feel it.

Jo Harvelle | OTA | will match format
She often spent her days scouring the stores while they were on the ice planet, but with the move to the jungle planet, she spends more time outside. She wants to get to know the planet as well as she can; if the Null attack she has no desire to be worried about the jungle around her as well.
Jo tries to spend a lot of time just listening to the wildlife and trying to see if there are warnings before a rain shower, and idly hoping that time in the humidity will help her adjust faster. It also, conveniently, helps her stop herself from spilling her guts to whoever is near.
Sooner or later she does tire of being outside in the heat and retreats to the Clinic, the Speakeasy, or to the home she's ended up sharing with three teenagers.
At the Speakeasy, she still camps out behind the bar, ready to pour drinks and listen to whoever approaches.

Maybe it's a symptom of something larger. She's been here with these mortal creatures too long and it's beginning to weigh on her. It brings to mind old stories from another life lived decades ago when she too was human. When she walked the streets of a city bustling with people and yet felt alone among them all. And it gives her the hint of an idea.
They all want to be friends, right? To understand each other. To bond, to collaborate, but also to commiserate. Maybe finally she realizes the value in indulging in one of their ways - the sharing of personal history. She's always been taciturn and private by nature, more interested in hearing everyone else's stories than sharing her own. The past ten years had only exacerbated those traits. Even if she'd wanted to tell her story to anyone, she couldn't. Anyone who'd once known any part of the truth had forgotten it, was someone she couldn't confide in by design. There was no one left who would understand, no one she was close enough to go to for comfort or advice, even if it all wasn't too horrible to even want to confess to.
She'd gotten very, very good at hiding not only what she knew, but who she was, how she felt, what she was thinking at any given time.
And here - well, there's no reason to tell anything to anyone here, is there? The main players, apparently, all know more of the story than she does. And everyone else - why should they care? It doesn't matter here. It's not relevant.
But for ten years, she'd carried the world's biggest secret, all alone. She'd worked and fought and suffered and felt - angry, guilty, afraid, lost and hopeless and alone - and she'd never been able to share it with anyone.
It's not a happy story. But lately, it's all she can think about. Shouldn't people know? ]

Basically, what's a cool way to deal with trauma? Don't. Throw yourself into anything that even slightly resembles work or duty instead. Also, withdraw from non-necessities for the most part due to the irrational fear that you'll be bad to be around, arguably the worst-case scenario of all.
(Don't follow that advice. Finn is not... good. At coping mechanisms. He thought he made some great strides in Riverview, and he was mostly wrong about that, it turns out.)
So he's been sort of hanging back. Doing the recuperating and repackaging thing. Not gone from the surface of this planet, but not strictly going out of his way to be on the friend-making circuit unless he sees someone who needs help with something or something. Sometimes it's good to dial it back.
That's been easing up bit by bit over the past few weeks, because he's bad at not wanting to be around people. Even when he's not all that great at it, being around people puts him at ease. And here lately, it's feeling especially true.
So he's back at it again at the krispy kreme. Making his usual-ish rounds? Mostly hitting up stores with all the relaxed energy of a cat who heard a loud noise it couldn't place, or maybe committing to the occasional run in the park, doing a little bit of exploring near the city perimeter. Or anything that people are generally doing as far as manual labor and defense prepping goes. Chopping wood, sharpening weapons, whatever. If it's work, he's interested.
He probably takes a lot of time just being glad they didn't go from the icy tundra to a straight-up desert. This jungle thing is walking the fine line of tolerable climates. ]

Still, they've fallen more easily into being a pair than even he would have suspected. He keeps busy with the Guard and with preparing for the Null attack as well as he can. She learns magic and attends to other tasks. They eat meals together often enough, and more than that, he feels comfortable with her, contented, sleeping deeply when they curl together at night. What their time together on the boat had made him think might be possible has come to fruition.
As to the Null? He's so used to assuming an army is marching on him from somewhere that the Null don't feel like a new threat, they just feel like the same old threat, maybe a little easier because the people they kill don't join their ranks.
He is at Guard HQ when he's struck by an overwhelming urge to talk to her. Seeing her won't be enough; kissing her won't be enough. This is only words. So he seeks her out, chasing all over town until he finds her. She's so beautiful, he thinks, and -- ]
